A large Oni, they use their four wings to soar through the skies and can incinerate their foes with their scorching hot breath. They have appeared in various Ages, and there are records of them laying waste to entire villages. In addition, they have been seen giving orders to smaller Oni, offering a glimpse into the Oni's social hierarchy. [1] |

Appearance[]
Pyropteryxes are large, bird-like Oni with a mostly brownish-red body. Their head is covered in red and white feathers, two of them sticking out backwards. They have two yellow eyes with small black pupils, a single, somewhat bloodied horn, a white ruff protecting the back of their neck and two rounded ears. They also have four wings with orange marks and bony spikes, two legs with four claws each and knee guards reminiscent of a demon's face, and a tail that splits in five directions, with a similar mark to those on its wings. When they enter a rampage, their posture becomes erect and their front wings become much longer, resembling arms or tentacles.
Combat[]
Destructible parts[]
- All wings, both legs and the tail can be severed and purified. The front wings and the tail can also be completely destroyed in Toukiden 2.
- The horn and the chest can be permanently destroyed.
Attack techniques[]
"Thrust" is relatively effective for attacking its tough chest section.
Attacks[]
Note: All attacks involving fire have a chance to set the target on fire.
While on the ground
- Pecks the ground twice, breathing fire in the process. If the front wings have been severed, the flames are nullified.
- When its essence is revealed, it will peck three times.
- Slowly jumps and stomps the ground.
- Charges forward while breathing fire around it. It will breathe fire one final time if it regains its defense right at the end of the attack. Can be countered with Oni Throw in Toukiden 2.
- Throws a fiery tornado forward with its wings, then three tornadoes at once. A similar attack is used when it's flying.
- Spins while releasing fire from its tail. If the tail has been severed, the flames are nullified.
- After storing energy, spins with a fiery whirlwind and starts flying. If the wings have been severed, the shockwave is nullified.
- Jumps to the side and starts flying.
While flying
- Flies in the direction of its target while breathing fire. Can be countered with Oni Throw in Toukiden 2.
- Flaps its wings, then spins and flies in the direction of the target with a fiery whirlwind. Can be countered with Oni Throw in Toukiden 2.
- Stops flying and lands on the ground.
In Toukiden: The Age of Demons and Toukiden: Kiwami, Pyropteryxes enter this state when they have roughly 30% health left, and will remain like this for the rest of the battle. In Toukiden 2, they enter it at roughly 60% health and can enter and leave it repeatedly.
- "Stabs" the target with its left or right front wing. Sometimes, it may use both in succession.
- Swings its left or right front wing to the side.
- Curls and turns back, swinging both front wings and creating a shockwave.
- Quickly jumps backwards.
- Swings its wings wildly while releasing fireballs, then "stabs" with its left and right front wing, and sweeps both to the side, creating a shockwave. If the front wings have been severed, the shockwave is nullified.
