Description[]
1404 - 1473
A samurai of the Muromachi period, he was sometimes known as the Red Monk, and was referred to as the "Second Coming of the Bishamonten" by Ikkyū. When the sixth shogun, Ashikaga Yoshinori, was assassinated by the Akamatsu clan, he eliminated the Akamatsu clan and served as the protector for 10 different realms. He was made the commander of the Western Army during the Ōnin War and faced his son-in-law, Hosokawa Katsumoto, who was in charge of the Eastern Army, but he died before the battle ended. He gave little importance to precedent and instead relied on the present situation. He appropriated numerous manors and temple lands which led him to be described as a tyrant, but it cold be said that he merely introduced the revolutionary fiefdom style of government that would be ushered in with the Sengoku daimyō.
